We've been getting this question a lot lately: Will there be an adult movie section in the store?
Most video stores back in the day had a separate “Adults Only” corner. It's an iconic part of the experience and we've been debating whether to include it in Retro Rewind. We fear it could affect the game's rating or turn some players away.
Our Current Plan:
We're considering a lighthearted, comedic take on the adult genre with stylized and non-vulgar artwork. Movie titles and cover art would lean into light humor and parody, rather than realistic or too explicit details. The adult movies are created using the same Movie Creation Tool that we developed for all other genres that combines hand-drawn artwork (no AI black magic here!) with a massive list of original titles we came up with. This will create some funny and bizarre combinations!
This genre won't be visible in the Marketplace on the computer. To buy adult movies, you'll need to visit a shady VHS dealer who will occasionally setup shop in a back alley behind the store. We designed it this way so players who aren't interested in this genre won't encounter it, since it isn't a core part of the game. Also, this mysterious character adds an extra touch of humor to the mix!
The Dealer will also offer bootleg movies for half their market value and the occasional holographic rarity.
Here's an example of an in-game adult movie to give you a sense of the direction we're exploring. The way we see it, if the movie could also be considered a comedy, the content is safe for all ages.
